UVPA

Overview:

The Pcion Universal Protocol Accelerator (UVPA) is a highly configurable server-class Host Bus Adapter (HBA) uniquely positioned as a flexible platform for emerging virtualization protocols. The UVPA is exceptionally customizable with a high-performance Altera FPGA-based architecture and a removable/replaceable network interface.

Pcion’s dual FPGA-based architecture accommodates an array of offload engine cores that enable optimal performance in virtualized systems. The UVPA is ideally suited as a host for either 3rd party/end-user or Pcion provided core solutions. Pcion holds a portfolio of offload engine cores which process data that would otherwise have to be processed by the host CPU. By reducing the amount of processing required by the CPU, the CPU is freed up to accommodate more virtual machines – more applications, thus increasing the capability of a given virtualized host system. Pcion’s family of offload engine cores include TCP/IP, iSCSI, and i-PCI.

Additionally, the UVPA is designed to accommodate a variety of physical layer network interfaces via mezzanine daughter card architecture. The daughter cards utilize the High Speed Mezzanine (HSM) industry standard. The OEM or end-user may implement a solution based on a daughter card from Pcion’s family of removable/replaceable network interfaces or design their own proprietary network daughter card solution.
